Interim Meeting of the ICOM-CC Metal WG
Charleston, South Carolina, USA
11-15 October 2010

Original Papers Are Invited For Submission Under The Following Themes:

Case Studies and Treatments
• Technical and authentication studies
• Conservation of large artifacts (e.g. practicality, sustainability, liability)
• Conservation of composite artifacts (e.g. mixed metals, metal-organic composites, metal threads, enameled, painted, plated, or guilded metals)
• Mass treatment (e.g. techniques, feasibility, limits)
• Conserving artifacts on a budget

Research and Treatment Development
• Advances in metal analysis and corrosion characterization
• Progress in conservation treatments (e.g. stabilization techniques, cleaning, corrosion inhibitors, patination)
• New approaches in metals protection (e.g. coatings, patination, corrosion inhibitors, preventive conservation, risk management analysis)
• Monitoring metal artifacts before and after conservation (e.g. documenting techniques, 3D scanning, reproduction, numerical modeling)
• Technology transfer from the industry

Authors interested in presenting a paper should submit an extended abstract (400-600 words) before 1 June 2009. The work must be original and not previously published. Contributions should be in English and include the contact information for the author[s] (affiliation, address, telephone, fax, and e-mail). The abstracts should be submitted via e-mail at the following address: ICOMCC.Metal2010@gmail.com

Bibliography

Well finally found a on line repository for Bibliographic references
http://www.citeulike.org/
look for the IECO group.
Have a browse then joint the group and input data!
If you don't want to upload the data send it to me as a word rtf or open office document and I'll do it!

Bigstuff 07

The BigStuff 2007 conference on the care of large technology objects (a follow up to Bigstuff 2004 which was held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra) is being held this year in Bochum, Germany on September, 11th - 14th, with pre-excursions on the 9th and 10th of September.

I have just received from the organising committee a newsletter, call for papers, format for abstracts, and registration forms for the conference and pre-conference workshops, so I am sending these out for any AICCM members who may be interested in either attending or submitting a paper. Abstracts for papers are due by 15th June.

If you would like any further information, please contact either the conference organisers at info@bigstuff07.net

or see the web site http:\\www.bigstuff07.net

or myself or

A Bibliography

We need a bibliography on the conservation of engineering and industrial objects.
This can be achieved in several ways but will always be limited by the languages of the author.
If we work on a common format and develop a bibliography electronically them maybe we will enable it to be slightly more inclusive.
If it is to be done electronically then it needs to follow the "Keep it simple" principle.
Hence I'm working on the next step!
A standard format.
Keep you posted.

the conservation of Industrial and engineering Cultural objects

Metals_Working_Group Theme on the conservation of Industrial and engineering Cultural objects "IECO"

As part of the 2005 to 2008 plan this theme looks at current conservation and restoration practice in the field of Industrial and Engineering Cultural Objects conservation and preservation (IECO).

A bibliography will be developed on current and past approaches to Industrial and Engineering Cultural Objects conservation. Current and past conservation methods and practice will be evaluated through case studies of specific conservation projects and of specific conservation methods.

Industrial literature will be consulted for potentially useful conservation materials, processes and products. The sub-WG will also coordinate strongly with the " BIG STUFF " conference in Bochum in 2007.

I'm currently calling for the names of members of the Metals Working Group who would be interested in participating in this theme/Sub-Group. I am particularly interested in developing the Multi-lingual bibliography as tool that can be ready for use at "big stuff" in September 2007.

Please contact me if you are interested in participating in this Sub-Group.
Please use the zzdhalla@gmail.com address for this group as the NMA spam filters can be overly aggressive.
